The Liberal Democrats have today published their manifesto for the 2014 elections.

The LibDems argue that the major issues facing the Borough are the continuing need for more school places, protecting and improving the local environment, working with the Police to combat crime, and action to tackle the growing housing crisis. They also want to protect and enhance local decision-making, and oppose Labour plans to centralise all decisions to Ilford Town Hall.

LibDem Council Leader Cllr Ian Bond said: “Since 2010 we have demonstrated that councillors working together across the parties can deliver better, more stable and more sensible administration than the chaos of unfair and unreasonable one-party rule that went before.”

“Liberal Democrat councillors are the insurance that Redbridge residents need to make sure that Labour does not act irresponsibly, and that Conservatives are not unfair. Only Liberal Democrats can offer the combination of responsibility and fairness – a strong economy and a fair society – that will be essential as we continue to save money whilst protecting services as best we can.

“Our message to residents is that, in these elections, the future of Redbridge is in your hands. Liberal Democrats believe in giving everybody the support that they need to reach their potential. We are the only party that can be trusted to represent all of Redbridge fairly, and not favour one part of the Borough above another.”

Liberal Democrats are fielding 37 candidates across Redbridge. Cllr Ian Bond said: “We know that many people want to see councillors working together, and worry about what one-party Labour or one-party Conservative rule would bring. In those areas where in the past we have been less strong, we are fielding a single candidate and asking everyone to lend one of their votes to the Liberal Democrat. This will be their ‘insurance’ to make sure that the other parties put the interests of all of our residents first. Trust us with your vote and we will make sure we get the job done.”
